The first day when we walked around in the hutongs of Beijing, we were surprised to see the way small businesses use the walls to advertise their services: using stamps, posters, and stencils. However, the most surprising thing to us was the way they were erased. Using a thick layer of gray paint, spray paint or any thing else that could be used to cover up the contents of these spontaneous advertisements, they were “erased” from the walls. We were very interested in the graphic imagery of this process, which inspired us to paint a mural in reference to this idea, using our style and vivid colors.
